The following are guidelines for your PowerPoint presentation on health beliefs and practices of a country:
You will pick one country, approval not required.
The purpose of the presentation is to identify a country’s cultural uniqueness and stimulate future health care provider’s awareness of the cultural beliefs and practices of the people from this country.
The topics must be covered in as much detail as required to meet criteria.
Using your library research skills, learn about the health beliefs and practices of the people in the country you selected.
Each student will use the Grading Criteria as a guide to develop your PowerPoint presentation.
Your slides will be balanced, use the note sections of each slide to add your narrative.
You will have 10-12 slides that will include your cover slide and references.
You should have data in the note sections of at least 8 slides.
When completing this assignment, you must provide references, from peer-reviewed articles on culture and health from Killam Library databases, in current APA format.
Grading Criteria (required in presentation):
Brief Overview of country of origin including: geographic location and land features, type of government and relevant historical facts, language(s) spoken demographics of country, population characteristics, dominant religion.
What are the traditional health and illness beliefs of that culture? Cultural group’s definition of health, Cultural group’s definition of illness, How do the group’s beliefs differ from those in the United States, how will this impact health care?
Health Practices (include “folk medicine”, rituals, charms, etc), Methods of protecting health, methods of maintaining health, Methods of restoring health.
Beliefs and practices (include “folk medicine”, rituals, charms, etc): Regarding child-bearing, Regarding child-rearing. Regarding death and dying.
Demographics of the cultural group in the US including: whether they settled in a certain geographic location, occupations, socioeconomic status, gender, age, national origin.
