Instructions
Purpose
In lesson 5, the discussion was around aggression and violence. This lesson talked about juveniles and criminal behavior. You learned about status offense and risk factors in both females and males. All too often, we witness situations of bullying and teenage rebellion, but have you stopped to think about how these acts can lead to further acts of criminal behavior? The purpose of this assignment is to immerse yourself in the concepts related to juvenile delinquency and criminal behavior and understand how the way the juvenile justice system treats the juvenile defender can impact their future.
Instructions
Interview an individual who works with youth in a juvenile court, detention facility, or rehabilitation center.
For this week’s assignment, you will conduct an interview with an individual who works with youth in a juvenile course, detention facility, rehabilitation, or community outreach center for youthful offenders. In your interview, include the following questions:
1. Based on your experience, what factors have an impact on the development of delinquent behavior? (You may suggest factors such as family stability, early acting out behavior and suspensions from school, peer influences, socio-economic factors, abuse, etc.)
2. What gender differences do you see between male and female juvenile offenders?
3. How are juvenile offenders usually handled in the court system and how effective is this in preventing further delinquent behavior?
4. What prevention or rehabilitation services have you seen to be effective? How could these be improved?
5. What is the greatest impediment to the prevention or rehabilitation of delinquency?
Your write up of the interview should include the following:
1. The role of the individual you interviewed (the name is optional)
2. Brief versions of their answers to the above questions.
3. A comparison of their responses to the theory and research that you have covered this week.
Length: 5-7 pages, not including title or reference pages.
References: Include a minimum of 3 scholarly references.
The completed assignment should address all of the assignment requirements, exhibit evidence of concept knowledge, and demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the content presented in the course. The writing should integrate scholarly resources, reflect academic expectations and current APA standards, and adhere to the Northcentral University’s Academic Integrity Policy.
