Positive psychology has been shown to have a significant impact on reducing stress as well as increasing resilience and one’s overall quality of life. This is particularly important for nursing students who are juggling their professional, personal, and academic lives. For this reflection assignment, you will complete the Values in Action (VIA) survey using the link below. You will have the opportunity to discover your strengths and consider how you can use them in a way to help minimize stress, while implementing aspects of positive psychology in your role as a nursing student.
Part 1:
Complete the Values in Action (VIA) SurveyLinks to an external site. (you will need to register first, but there is no cost associated with this) and put a screenshot of your results on an APA style appendix in your paper. Read the following article and cite this resource when answering your prompts: Resilience Theory articleLinks to an external site..
Part 2:
Answer the following prompts in the reflection portion of your assignment. Your reflection should be at least 1 page long and you should include APA style in-text citations, tying your responses back to the literature.
According to the VIA, what are your top 5 strengths? Do you agree with the results? Why or why not?
How might your character strengths show up in your role as a student? How can you use these strengths to get you through challenging experiences, such as managing exams and deadlines in college?
After reviewing the Resilience Theory articleLinks to an external site., describe character strengths and resilience. Provide 2 examples of how you can utilize the protective factors discussed in the article to adapt to stress you might experience in your life. For example, gratitude can serve as a protective factor against challenges in life so listing 5 things one is grateful for each day can be helpful (please develop your own examples).
Assignment Requirements:
The minimum length of the paper is 1 page (not including the title, reference page, and required appendix).
Utilize the article provided as a reference. You are welcome to utilize additional academic references for the assignment, including the textbook (positive psychology is covered in chapter 14).
