Instructions
In your final project, you will be collecting your own data! That’s right, you will first develop a research rationale and hypothesis using previous research (journal articles) and then will be collecting field data on one of the options described below.
After you perform your “study,” you will be creating a PowerPoint Presentation following the format provided. You will all be sharing these “posters” with each other the last week of the term. The idea behind this assignment is to create an online “Poster Session.”
A poster session is when a researcher or group of researchers create a summary of their recent research to present to their peers. These are a very common event at academic conferences. Posters are a great way to present and learn about research in a quick and interesting way. You can refer to the attached sample presentation when creating your own.
Presentation Details
Make sure to thoroughly read and answer all questions related to the topic you chose. All presentations must include
(Slide 1) a title page,
(Slide 2) an introduction page that includes in-text citations to at least 4 scientific (preferably peer-reviewed) sources and your research questions/hypotheses,
(Slide 3) a methods page that includes how you collected your data,
(Slide 4) a page displaying any materials used to collect this data (e.g., chart, survey),
(Slide 5) a results page describing your findings (just a plain English description of your findings, no statistics necessary),
(Slide 6) a visual display of your results,
(Slide 7) a discussion page (generalizations to relevant theory, generalizations to real-world, any limitations, and suggestions for future research), and
(Slide 8) a references page (APA style).
Please refer to the Sample Presentation to understand the expectancies for each slide. Your submission should follow the formatting of my example but should have information on your project and have a personalized color/design. This presentation will be submitted here and within Discussion 8 for peer review.
Topic Choices
Choose one of the following paper topics:
Option 1
Narcissism is a topic we discussed when learning about self-understanding. Research shows that narcissism has been increasing among America’s youth in recent years. Define narcissism, and then search any media source to look for evidence of narcissism. This media can include social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter or traditional media like TV, movies, or magazines.
The first step should be to make a chart to examine the following criteria within each source:
What form of media are you examining?
What indicators of narcissism do you see?
Describe the source of the communication (demographics)?
Describe the target of communication (demographics)?
What about signs of caring for and empathy toward others?
You should examine a minimum of 8 media sources to gather enough data.
Academic Honesty
Any cases of blatant plagiarism or repeat submissions will result in disciplinary action. A plagiarism checking tool has been enabled for this submission. Once you submit your work, you will see a similarity report detailing possible areas of concern. Please review this report when submitting your work and make adjustments if necessary. Your instructor will also get these reports and will review them for possible plagiarism. Please read the page entitled “What is Plagiarism?” within the Research Basics module.
