INSTRUCTIONS

Scenario: you were contacted by a young adult family member who was
just accepted into an elementary education program at a nearby university. The
relative, Tracy, is very nervous about teaching reading after discovering there
is so much to learn. Next week, you will meet with Tracy to explain the Big 5 +
2 components of reading (Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary,
& Comprehension + Oral Language & Writing). Because you want to impress
Tracy, you decided to create a voice-over power point (or
Canva, or another platform that is compatible with windows).
Include the following in the recorded presentation:
· each component (7) defined and explained
· ages, grade levels, and additional situations in which the
component is taught (remediation, multilingual student, etc.)
· an example of how to teach the component (include the I do,
We do, You do aspect, no lesson plan required)
· a direct link within a website that provides additional
information (not a generic link to the main page)
· an example of an assessment for each component (if
observation is used in lower grades, explain exactly what is being observed)
· one slide that provides a rationale why reading and writing
should be taught together
· one slide dedicated to multisensory activities to use when
teaching reading
· one slide dedicated to differentiation for multilingual
students (formerly referred to as English learners)
· APA 7th edition formatting for in-text citations (in this
case, on the slides) and references page
· proofread well for grammar, mechanics, etc.
Do NOT include: worksheets, copies of premade lessons, TPT,
teacher blog info, Pinterest, etc.
