Initial Draft for Essay #2 (Due Sunday, 4/21)
By 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, 4/21, submit your initial draft for Essay #2, as a pdf, properly formatted in the MLA style, to this forum.
Directives
1)  For pointers, read the essay by Alyssa Ponsones.  It is on the Modules page.
2)  In your introduction, effectively set up the overarching topic of wrongness.  To that end, use relevant source material from Kathryn Schulz’s TED Talk or Julie Beck’s article.  If the spirit moves you, use both.  Be sure to properly introduce the sources you use in your introduction.  Close your introduction with your thesis, not with source material.
3)  When you introduce your focal group, the people who falsely believe what they do, be sure to note that these folks exemplify the phenomenon of wrongness.  Of course, the focus in this essay is to explain why they cling to this false belief and reject the facts and evidence that prove them wrong.
4)  To that end, plan to devote numerous, focused paragraphs to the development of the profile (who are these people, and what are the common threads?) and the causality (what influences and motivates them to falsely believe what they do?).  Include the source material from your research that you plan to use to clarify and substantiate your topic sentences.  Also include relevant material from my sources, primarily from Beck and Schulz’s pieces, and note how their terms, ideas, and information relate to your group and the given point.
5)  Later in your essay, broaden the scope of your discussion to the overarching topic of wrongness, and provide advice and recommendations that will help to curb this phenomenon from happening.  You may want to devote several, focused paragraphs to this.  Use relevant material from Beck, Schulz, and Phelps-Roper’s pieces in these paragraphs.
5)  Provide your own conclusion.  Avoid opening your conclusion with “In conclusion,” and do not generate a summary.  Instead, present the overarching synthesis and analysis of your material to convey the significance thereof, and provide final thesis support to note why this issue–the difficulty of embracing wrongness–is so important.
