INDIVIDUAL CASE STUDY ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
THIS PAPER CONSISTS OF ONE SECTION, SECTION WHICH IS A CASE STUDY WHICH IS A PART OF THE COURSE REQUIREMENT FOR COUNSELLING THEORIES 1. THE CASE STUDY SHOULD BE COMPLETED INDIVIDUALLY AND IT IS WORTH 20 % OF THE OVERALL COURSE LETTER GRADE. THE INDIVIDUAL CASE STUDY ASSESSMENT HAS A TOTAL VALUE OF 30 POINTS AND IT IS A TAKE HOME RESEARCH ASSESSMENT THAT WILL ASSESS EACH STUDENT’S ABILITY TO INTEGRATE THE THEORETICAL CONCEPTS OF A NUMBER OF COUNSELLING THEORIES AND APPLY THE RELEVANT TECHNIQUES TO A PARTICULAR SOCIAL PROBLEM WITHIN THE JAMAICAN OR THE CARIBBEAN CONTEXT.
STUDENTS SHOULD ALSO FEEL FREE TO USE AT LEAST TWO (2) INTERNET RESEARCH ENGINES. HOWEVER, THE BULK OF THE RESEARCH MATERIAL SHOULD BE ADAPTED FROM BOOK CHAPTERS AND JOURNALS WITH THE PROPER CREDIT TO THE AUTHORS. STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED TO BE CREATIVE IN THE CASE STUDY SUCH AS USED OF VISUALS, RECORDINGS AND DIAGRAMS TO ILLUSTRATE THEIR IDEAS. SINCE THIS IS A PSYCHOLOGY COURSE, IT IS EXPECTED FOR ALL STUDENTS TO USE APA STYLE OF WRITING WHEN CITING THE RESEARCH INFORMATION. A COPY OF THE APA STYLE WRITING MANUAL (7TH EDITION) HAS BEEN UPLOADED TO THE COURSE PAGE. THE CASE STUDY IS DUE BY THE DESIGNATED DATE AND MUST BE UPLOADED TO THE UCC PLATFORM. THE LECTURER WILL NOT ACCEPT ASSIGNMENTS SENT THROUGH FACULTY EMAIL.
SECTION A: MANDATORY QUESTION (30 Marks)
CASE STUDY INSTRUCTIONS:
Students will be required to CREATE A CASE STUDY IN RELATION TO A SOCIAL PROBLEM OR PSYCHOLOGICAL DISORDER that can be found within the Jamaican context or the Caribbean Basin. The Social Problem or a Psychological Disorder is not an exhausted list of the following Social Problems and Psychological Disorders outlined below: –
1.Child Abuse/Neglect
2.Child conduct problems
3.Juvenile Delinquency
4.Relationship problems
5.Child or Adult Bullying
6.Child or Adult Depression
7.Child or Adult Anxiety
8.Gay/Lesbian Homosexuality/Bisexuality
9.Self Esteem and Homelessness
10.Gender Dysphoria
11.Parenting Problems.
12.Intimate Partner Violence
The Case Study can be either or AN ADULT OR CHILD CASE and the content of the CASE should reflect directly on the social problem and/or the psychological disorder. Students will select AT LEAST ONE of the major counselling theories studied throughout the course and apply the theoretical concepts and the techniques of the particular counselling theory to the particular Social problem or Psychological Disorder.
1.The Definition of the Social or Psychological Problem (Research)
2.The nature of the Social or Psychological Problem (Research)
3.The Key Concepts of the Theory in relation to the problem
4.The Therapeutic Goals of Treatment to the Social Problem and Psychological Disorder
5.The use of Techniques and Interventions to the Social Problem or Psychological Disorder (This must include the discussion of any social agencies or government organizations that are available to deal with the particular problem).
6. The Ethical and Multicultural applicability to the Jamaica Context
7. Conclusion
FORMAT AND STRUCTURE OF THE CASE STUDY
Students are expected to utilize the APA style of writing format and to include the following: –
1.An Introduction
2.The quality content of research information to critically integrate the concepts
3.The proper citing of sources in the body of the Essay
4.A Reference Page AND Conclusion are required.
5.It is assumed that students will be able to integrate and critically apply the concepts and interventions and techniques to the Case Study
