you reflect, consider how different patients may find ways to “own”
their illness or to find empowerment instead of weakness to the articles
and the painting.

In Broyard’s article, “Intoxicated By My Illness,” he describes an
experience of becoming almost enamored of his illness: “When you learn
that your life is threatened, you can turn toward this knowledge or away
from it. I turned toward it.” Later he writes, “I understood that
living itself had a deadline.”
Frank recounts the importance of finding one’s story as one deals with an illness.
Kahlo paints a depiction of her chronic pain in The Wounded Deer.
In
your initial post, apply Broyard’s statements to all three resources
from the module materials and explain how each either turned toward
their suffering or away from it, and provide specific examples from each
as you describe what their illness journeys looked like.
The initial post should be at least 250 words. Be sure to include 2-3 references to the assigned readings, terms, and concepts from the module.
