. In this assignment, you will write the second half of your annotated bibliography using the journal articles in your reference list. Identify the remaining journal articles from your reference list to summarize and analyze.
Be sure to review your grading feedback for your Unit 3 Assignment. If your professor instructed you to replace any of the articles in your reference list, you should not include the article(s) in your annotated bibliography. Summaries of those articles would not count toward the requirements for the annotated bibliography assignment.
You will need to follow the steps outlined below to complete your assignment. Reviewing the readings and tutorials will help to ensure you have the information you need to be successful.
Your assignment should be 3 – 5 pages long, not including the title page. When writing your annotated bibliography, write in complete sentences and paragraph form. You may use this optional Unit 5 Assignment template to complete your assignment.
Note: It is important to avoid using direct quotes from the research articles in your summaries. If you must use a direct quote when summarizing the article, use APA style formatting to cite the quote properly (e.g., include the page number of the quoted material and enclose the quote in quotation marks).
Be sure to address the following criteria in your assignment:
Summarize key information about each study, including the following information:
The aim of the study
Independent, dependent, and other variables in the study
Research methods (including participants, measures, and procedures)
Major findings
Major conclusions
Practical implications
Analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the research. Consider factors such as the relevance and importance of the research topic, the appropriateness of the research methods, the number and characteristics of the research participants, and threats to the reliability and validity of the study.
Reflect on the usefulness of the study with respect to your research proposal. Address the following:
How specifically will this article fit into your literature review?
Do the study findings support your hypothesis or provide evidence directly related to your hypothesis?
How will you build on the information in the article in your proposed study (e.g., are there limitations of the study that you would address in your research proposal?).
Formatting your annotated bibliography:
Provide each article’s full, APA-style formatted reference.
Put the full reference in bold font
Provide your summary and analysis of each article directly under the corresponding reference.
Step-by-Step Instructions for the Annotated Bibliography
Review the following resources in preparation for this assignment.
Read “Annotated Bibliography (APA Style 7th Ed).” Note that this resource may show annotated bibliographies formatted differently than required in this assignment. Where there are differences, refer to your assignment guidelines and grading rubric for guidance.
Use the reference list you created in Unit 3 as an outline for your annotated bibliography. Put the references in bold font.
Read your first article and highlight or take notes of the key information you must summarize, including information about the following:
The aim of the study
Independent, dependent, and other variables in the study
Research methods (including participants, measures, and procedures),
Major findings
Major conclusions
Practical implications
After summarizing the article, analyze its strengths and weaknesses. Consider factors such as the relevance and importance of the research topic, the appropriateness of the research methods, the number and characteristics of the research participants, and threats to the reliability and validity of the study.
Assess the article’s usefulness with respect to your research proposal. Address the following:
How specifically will this article fit into your literature review?
Do the study findings support your hypothesis or provide evidence directly related to your hypothesis?
How will you build on the information in the article in your proposed study (e.g., are there limitations of the study that you would address in your research proposal?).
Repeat steps 3 – 5 for each journal article.
Your assignment should be an annotated bibliography and should include the following elements:
Use Arial or Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced and left aligned.
Use standard 1″ margins on all sides.
Use APA formatting and citation style.
Provide the full, APA-style formatted reference for each article.
Put the full reference in bold font
Provide your summary and analysis of each article directly under the corresponding reference.
