In spite of tight markets and competition, today’s job applicants do have some distinct advantages when searching for jobs in the digital age. Not only can you search for jobs online, but you can also search for useful information about the hiring organizations. For many organizations, a wealth of information is available for those interested in looking for it. The most obvious first source may be an organization’s own website. But a determined and curious job seeker can look even further. To be certain, information literacy skills must be applied in order to separate reliable information from the unreliable. But the odds are that a bit of searching will unearth advice, tips, and data that will inform your job searches and your approaches to the application process.
For this Assignment:
Review this week’s Learning Resources on job application materials and job searches. Pay particular attention to resources available at the Walden University Career Planning and Development site.
Locate a job posting online for a health education position for which you would be interested in applying. (A listing of Job Search Resources is included in this week’s Learning Resources.)
If available, review the website of the organization that posted the position to learn about its background, mission, organizational goals, and current projects or programs. As appropriate, consider how you can use this information to enhance and customize your cover letter (part of this Capstone Assignment) and résumé.
Consider other sources of information that may be helpful in determining whether or not this is a position for which you’d like to apply, or how you might use this information in your application materials. An ePortfolio or résumé, for example, might be tailored or customized to emphasize specific experiences that align to an organization’s interests.
The Assignment ( paragraph cover letter, résumé):
Identify and describe the job opportunity that you are going to address in this Assignment. If possible, include the URL link for the job posting.
Write a cover letter that briefly explains your interest in the job and highlights your key qualifications.
Provide a résumé tailored as necessary to meet the requirements of the job posting.
