In order to truly understand and apply this material, you have to incorporate your text learning to our class discussions and assignments. This assignment will give you the opportunity to do so, to “show what you know”, so to speak. For this assignment, you will create 1-2 questions from each chapter, and then answer your own question. This should be a question that examines several issues. It is, basically, creating and answering your own essay test.
You will be graded on both the examining and probing nature of the question, as well as the thorough analysis and examination of information in your answer. I really want to see chapter information reflected and dissected. It would NOT be sufficient to ask “What do you think of teens and social networking”, as it is suggests opinion and is very broad. Instead, it would be a better, more thorough analysis if you were to pose, “Why might teens self concept be impacted by the prevalence of social networking and the reliance upon the “super peer”?”. These are simply examples, to highlight the importance of creating comprehensive questions and answers to really “show what you know.” I am looking for 1-2 questions per chapter, ranging in length based on the question.
You MAY use one question to cover issues in more than one chapter. You should have approximately 12-14 questions total. Your answers should be thorough, but succinct (I’m not looking for your to write a page for each one, but two or three sentences should not be sufficient either. You should aim to answer the questions as you would an essay, with a few paragraphs that answer completely). You absolutely SHOULD cite your text with specificity (theories, theorists, info WITH PARENTHETICAL CITATION IN APA STYLE) and I strongly recommend integrating a few outside sources as well (journal articles, etc). This means you will need a reference page. Your textbook should be cited throughout (author, year, page) the first time, and then (page #) after.
Spelling, grammar and structure are important. Please make sure to use complete paragraphs. Write the question itself in bold and the answer in regular font.
