In Chapter 7 (Screening and Assessment), authors discuss several types of assessment and provide examples of assessment questions. These questions are aimed at getting a more complete picture of the types of addictions, the level of acuity, as well as the level of impairment.
Later in the chapter, however, authors discuss the intersection of assessments and the strength perspective. Authors posit that in order to balance being deficit focused, there is a need to “assess client strengths and resources and bring them to the light of day.”
With that said – let’s build our own assessment based on strengths!
List one assessment question that is aimed at getting a better understanding of a person’s strengths (individual, social, relational, etc), resources, and protective factors. Explain why this question is one that you would want to know when assessing a client.
Make sure to provide a thorough post (e.g. 300 word count) provide and “QUESTION” to the class on the chapter after you answer the prompt. Make sure your Question to the class is open ended and ask your classmates to elaborate on their thoughts by using phrases such as: “why or why not?” “explain your reasoning”, and “explain your opinions” at the end of your questions. Provide in-text citations of the textbook in APA style in your post along with References at the end of your original post in APA style.
