April 19, 2024

In a Position essay, you take a stance or position on a debatable topic. Your goal is not to persuade the reader to agree with you as much as to get the reader to at least respect your position as reasonable and valuable.
It needs to be about student loans and I have provided the documents that need to be used bellow.
For example, you :
Demonstrate an understanding of the rhetorical situation of your essay.
State a clear position or stance. (This will be your thesis).
Explain the debate and provide necessary context for the reader by stating both sides of the debate.
Use credible resources to support your position (and possibly to provide additional context for the debate).
Address the opposition’s position and refute it by explaining why it is not as convincing as your own position. Remember, though, it is always an effective strategy to concede some points to the opposition as long as it is clear that your overall position is still more valid. (Note that this requirement is what distinguish the Position 2 Essay from the Position 1 Essay).
TASK and PURPOSE
For this assignment, you will use the topic from your Annotated Bibliography. However, you may change your sources if you have found better ones since submitting the bibliography.
The audience for the essay will be educated, unbiased readers who genuinely want to hear expert opinion on the question.
The goal of this assignment is to help you understand how to communicate effectively by presenting information in a concise and clear manner and by persuading your audience that you understand both sides of the debate and to respect your position as being reasonable. See the PowerPoint – Argumentative Essays (Part 2 – The Rhetorical Situation) for more help.
You are required to include an opposition section in this essay. See the following:
Break the task into the following steps:
Analyze the rhetorical situation
Plan for your essay’s purpose and audience
Research the topic so that you understand both sides of the debate
Draft your overall message or thesis
Communicate your message within the context of the debate surrounding your question
CONTENT & FORMATTING
In your essay, you should include the following:
A TITLE that tells the reader the name of the article and the author. Use a two-part title like this: Should the National Minimum Wage be Raised?: Many Think so, but the Timing is not Right.
An OVERVIEW of the debate. What is the question, and why is it being asked right now?
A thesis stating your POSITION on the debate.
An organized explanation of and SUPPORT for your position.
An OPPOSITION SECTION in which you present and refute the opposition’s position.
Your essay should be at least 1250 words in length.
These are the documents that need to be used for the position essay.
