Caroline’s Post:
Clinically significant can be defined as the practical importance of an effect, whether it is a palpable, genuine, or noticeable effect on the daily life of the patient. It is considered as a meaningful subjective interpretation of research findings as being meaningful for patients under care. Clinical significance results occur when the healthcare professionals prove that the findings are good enough to be medically crucial and thus can be applied in providing patient care and treatment (Heavey, 2014).
The difference between the clinical significance and statistical significance is clear; Whereas an analysis conducted by the researcher establishes the statistical significance, the clinical significance is established by research experts in the relevant field. The research team is the ones who determine whether the statistical significance difference that exists is clinically essential (Heavey, 2014). When comparing the two types of significances, the statistical significance comes first, then followed by clinical significance. In every research study, the statistical significance should be determined first before determining clinical significance. Whereas the clinical significance is dependent on the existing practice-treatment effect, the statistical significance is much dependent on the size of the study sample (Ranganathan et al., 2015)
For successful implementation of the evidence obtained from the capstone project, it is always essential for the researcher to have a good understanding of the interpretation of the research findings (Ranganathan et al., 2015). Researchers and care providers can use clinical significance to support positive outcomes in various healthcare projects in various ways. For instance, in my case, I would use clinical significance to support positive outcomes by ensuring that the results obtained are statistically significant and related to the project proposal. If the likelihood of the findings from the research is true and does not occur by chance, then the results would be considered clinically significant, and I would use the results to support the positive outcomes with regards to the prevention and control of spinal cord injuries (Ranganathan et al., 2015).
