RE: Coaching and providing feedback for improved performance
Providing and receiving feedback is a very important element in life. It starts in school and continues on through our careers. Most of us provide feedback regularly within our personal lives as well it is in the form of giving advice to people we may care about. The importance of receiving feedback at work or in school is immeasurable. It can strengthen the eagerness to continue doing well and strive to do more (de Janasz, 2022). Here in school, I have valued the feedback I receive each time I turn in an assignment. Some instructors are very detailed and I have the ability to learn where I need to make some improvements. Early years in school are filled with feedback, it helps to form what kind of student each person will be (Raina, 2020). That acceptance and learning from feedback stays with us into our careers. The quote, to me, means just what I was saying, actively listening to feedback or advice and using it to better yourself or to steer in a particular direction. My boss regularly provides feedback to all of us. She is all of the staff’s biggest champions and her goal is to encourage our continued growth and utilize our strengths. Some days her feedback is a card on our desk saying how well we handled a crisis and other days she says we need to work together to find a new strategy for a particular student because what we are doing is not working effectively. I personally thrive on that feedback and will seek out feedback if I need reinforcements. That feedback has at every time inspired all of the staff to come up with better ideas and new plans (Hastwell, 2021). There is a power in accepting feedback. No one is perfect, we all need some advice on how to better achieve something. Sometimes a different perspective on something is what it takes to have success on something. It is just as important to give feedback. It is important to be aware of how the feedback is being received; watching body language can give clues on if the person is receiving the feedback in a positive way or at least the way it is intended (de Janasz, 2022). In the future, I will continue to accept feedback in a positive way and I will strive to do more and be more aware when I provide feedback to others.
