Shirley Nathan-Pulliam is somewhat of a legend in the state of Maryland. She had humble beginnings, born in Trelawny, Jamaica, West Indies, May 20, 1939. She Attended Mico School, Kingston, Jamaica; Naburn and Bootham Park Hospitals School of Nursing, Yorkshire, England, 1960. In the United States, she started her nursing career at Baltimore City Hospital School of Practical Nursing, L.P.N., 1962, continuing to Baltimore Community College, A.A. (nursing), 1975, then University of Maryland at Baltimore, B.S. (nursing), 1980, and finally, The Johns Hopkins University, M.A.S. (administrative science), 1987 (Shirley Nathan-Pulliam, Maryland State Senator, 2021). She is not only a Registered nurse but also business owner. She remained on the faculty at The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing, 1997-2000. She was a member of the Senate from 2014-2019. She played an important role in health care in Maryland.
