IMPORTANT: For this and all assignments in this class, proper citation guidelines should be followed.
You will see a number of different guide options, like APA, MLA, and Chicago/Turabian. You can work with whichever one you like, but just be consistent with it in any paper or assignment. It is highly recommended to use parenthetical in-text citations with a “works cited” or “references” list at the end of the paper, rather than footnotes throughout the paper. The different guides will explain all of that. It is also important to follow these guides when it comes to properly formatting the overall paper or assignment (though paper formatting is not applicable for discussion board assignments, and only useful when submitting Word doc files).
Purpose
The Constitution created a government to take on important responsibilities, which necessitated the creation of departments, bureaus, and agencies (the bureaucracy). This assignment allows you to consider your own experiences and reflect on the textbook to offer a strength and a weakness of a federal bureaucracy entity as it exists today. The discussion is aligned with the module learning objective:
MLO 1. Explain the breadth of the administrative capability of the US government, historical development of the US bureaucracy, and how it executes its responsibilities.
Directions
Please refer to the discussion grading rubric and follow the discussion guidelines to complete the assignment.
Part I: Initial Response
The Constitution created a government to take on important responsibilities, which necessitated the creation of departments, bureaus, and agencies (the bureaucracy).
Read Chapter 15 of the textbook, and view any or all of the videos recommended as you see fit, and ponder your own experiences with government bureaucracy. Then answer the following:
What is a strength of a bureaucracy you have encountered or learned about?
What is a weakness or bad experience you have encountered or learned about? Be specific in your examples.
You’ll need to write at least two “meaty” paragraphs, one paragraph for the strength, and one paragraph for the weakness. That makes two. 🙂 Please make sure to spell check and proofread. Grammar matters.
Each of your examples should be briefly explained with a few sentences that form a complete paragraph. Bullet point lists do not work here. You need to properly cite all of your resources using a scholarly resource method, like Turabian, MLA, APA, or Chicago.
