Complete the New Nation worksheet to trace the development of political parties in the new republic. As you complete the worksheet, you will also have the opportunity to describe Jeffersonian democracy in relation to significant events from Jefferson’s presidency. Finally, you will discuss the relationship between the military events and outcomes of the War of 1812.
A word of advice: DO NOT select events from before or after Jefferson was president. Only acts, policies, and issues during his time in office. Be specific as well. You will also be filling out every box on the chart, not just for one political party.
Jeffersonian Democracy also only refers to his presidency.

Make sure your part 1 and 2 sections are ONLY about Jefferson’s presidency. Nothing before or after he was in office.
Fill in all boxes, and EXPLAIN the views of each political party in regards to the Jefferson policy. For example, if you select the Louisiana Purchase as a policy, explain the Democratic-Republican view on the Purchase AND the Federalist view. Don’t just say they like or dislike the action.
And of course, this must be in your own words, with proper citations and references.
When you all complete the first part, make sure you remember this assignment is NOT asking about Jefferson before or after being president. It is ONLY asking about his policies while in office. Be specific in the policies and actions he took while president. Then you complete all boxes on the chart explaining the political parties views on each event/action/policy. Remember, the Declaration of Independence, his role as vice president or his personal life with Sally Hemmings, for example, have nothing to do with his presidency.
The second part of the assignment is asking about Jeffersonian Democracy and its relation to his presidency. The textbook goes into much detail on this topic. Again, this is only about his presidency.
The last part is on the War of 1812, and asks you to give an overview of what happened and the results.
