I’m working on a history writing question and need guidance to help me study.Your essay should be 7 double-spaced typed pages in length (do not exceed 10 pages). Your paper should be done in Times New Roman font at 12-font size. Your footnotes should also be Times New Roman with an 11-font size. Your paper should have a title page and a bibliography with all your cited work (both of these pages will not count towards your 7-page length). The paper must offer an argument supported by the analysis of secondary sources from the topic that you have chosen (minimum of at least 2 secondary sources and 1 primary source.) The paper will be graded for content, organization, and style.

It should follow the term paper format in Formal Paper Writing Guidelines download. You will have the opportunity to choose ONE of the topics or questions below on what you write your paper on. Choose the topic/question that means the most to you and that you’re comfortable writing on. Paper must be submitted as a word Doc. Make sure it is your writing, the plagiarism check in Canvas is on (see our syllabus about our policy about plagiarism). Choose ONE of the following questions to answer with specific examples (bring in examples from our text, our readings, our films, and our documentaries). Make sure you provide a thesis statement or main argument at the end of your first paragraph and follow that argument throughout your paper. Explain the concepts/ideas and provide specific examples for each part.

You will need to do some more research on these topics to get a better understanding. (Use academic language and check for spelling, grammar and punctuation.) Central Conflicts and Colonial Legacies (Spain and the Aztecs). Discuss some of the “central conflicts” of the colonial era, our “colonial legacies” that would shape the region for centuries to come: of the conquest, subjugation and exploitation of Native peoples (native slavery, the encomienda); diseases and demographic collapse (which ones? When? Consequences?); the transatlantic slave trade (how did that happen? How many? To what regions and for what?), and the emergence of race as a hegemonic idea (why is that important?); and patriarchy as a hegemonic idea. and discuss how these would matter for the modern era- the 19th-21st Remember, “legacies” don’t have to be negative, for example: culture, transculturation, language and music…

(Study hints: our lectures, Chapter 1&2 of the American YAWP, Hegemony Out of Conquest Module 3 article)Manifest Destiny. Describe the emergence of “Manifest Destiny” in the U.S. – tell us what it is, how it emerged, and explain how it impacted Native peoples in the U.S. (the Cherokee, Plains Indians, Native Peoples of the West) in the 19th Then explain how the U.S. came to take half of Mexico, and how the Mexican-American and Native American population that lived in the territories that the U.S. took from Mexico in 1848 (California, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas) fared after 1848. Explain each part with specific examples
(Study hints: our lectures, our films “Manifest Destiny,” Chapter 12 of the American YAWP)The Civil War and Reconstruction Era. Why couldn’t the United States create or sustain a democracy/republic in the 19th century without civil war? Was Reconstruction a “failure?” Why do we ask that question? How should we ask that question? Did the Reconstruction years bring about unprecedented levels of political terror and violence?
(Study hints: our lectures, and Chapters 13 & 14 of the American YAWP)OREssay Topics:Choose one of the topics below to write your paper. You will have to do your own research for a better understanding of the topic. Make sure to use secondary sources to support your argument and cite appropriately. If they relate indirectly to our course make sure you tie it into the greater scheme of Early American History. Most of these topics will require you to do your own research.
