I’m working on a economics project and need support to help me learn.Start here by watching this video: Project Data Introduction Video (Links to an external site.)Software:You will be required to conduct statistical analyses using real data that you collect and enter into the Statistix software package. The software is available free of charge on the USF Application Gateway in MyUSF or can be purchased at the campus bookstore for around ten dollars and loaded onto a PC (Not MACs).
Working with Statistix in the Application Gateway: Statistix in the Application Gateway (Links to an external site.)Project Data CollectionData:The goal of the project assignments is to allow you to get hands-on experience analyzing and interpreting data using the techniques we learn throughout the semester. To facilitate this, I have limited you to the type of data that you are allowed to collect. I have listed below three possible sources of data.
Choose any of the three to use for your project.Apartment Data – collect data from 25 apartments in each of three different locations (areas of the city, different counties, etc.). The variables that you will enter will be Rent (for a 2 BR apartment), Size (in square feet), and Location (enter the locations as either 1, 2, or 3). Your data set should consist of a total of 75 cases with three variables. Sources: Apartment Guides, newspaper, calling apartments.
Automobile Data – collect data from 25 used automobiles from each of three comparable car brands (cars in the same automobile class).
The variables that you will enter will be Asking Price, Mileage of the vehicle, and the Model of the Car (enter the model as either 1, 2, or 3). Your data set should consist of a total of 75 cases with three variables. Sources: internet sites such as craigslist, newspapers, auto trader magazines.
Home Price Data – collect data from 25 homes that are for sale in each of three different locations (neighborhoods of the city, different counties, etc.). The variables that you will enter will be Asking Price, Size (in square feet), and Location (enter the locations as either 1, 2, or 3). Your data set should consist of a total of 75 cases with three variables. Sources: Newspapers, real estate magazines, MLS listings.
Ideally, you would take a random sample from the population that you are working with. For the project assignments, it is more important to get your data collected quickly, so I will not worry about the randomness of your data. For clarity, your data set should consist of a total of 75 observations (3 locations/models each with 25 observations) with three variables each. This data set will be used for you on all four project assignments (called Project 1, Project 2, Project 3 and Project 4). More details will follow regarding the specifics of what will be required of you on the projects as well as demonstrations on how to create the printouts that you will need using the Statistics software.
Project 1 : Before attempting the project, make sure you have watched the Project Introduction video and entered your project data into either Excel and can access the data in Statistix. Using Statistix, you are required to generate printouts that you will embed into the Project Word document that is posted below. You will then answer the questions that I ask in the project, save the document with your completed work, and submit it to me in Canvas. Here are the steps you will need to complete:Download the project.
Watch the Project Description/Printout Demonstration Video to help you to generate the required printouts.
Create and embed the printouts and answer the project questions and submit it in Canvas by midnight on the due date.
To help, I have created a video for both showing you how to Submit Projects in Canvas and also Using Statistix in the Application Gateway (which is posted elsewhere). Feel free to join me during the Blackboard Collaborate Ultra sessions to ask questions about the project! I will be doing Statistix demonstrations as well as sharing printouts from my data set and helping you answer project questions for my printouts.Project: QMB 2100 Project 1 Summer 2021.docx download Project Description/Printout Demonstration: Project 1 Discussion/Computer Demonstration (Links to an external site.)
I give some hints on the type of answers I am looking for and do a computer demonstration (starts at the 7:00-minute mark of the video) showing you how to generate the required printouts. How to Submit Projects in Canvas: Submitting Projects in Canvas (Links to an external site.)Using Statistix in the Application Gateway Video: Working with Statistix in the Application Gateway
