Identify three different potential audiences that the LU website addresses.

June 23, 2021
Christopher R. Teeple

The LU website must address a great many needs (purposes) for many possible audiences.
Task 1
Identify three different potential audiences that the LU website addresses. Search around on the site and think about who might visit the site for information. Find specific landing pages and information within the LU website.
One way to think about this is that as a current student, you probably visit the site for some specific reasons. It’s easy enough to identify how you personally use the site and how the site helps you find what you need to know or do what you need to do.
But the site also addresses potential audiences other than current students. Who else might the site address? What does it help them do or learn? Look for specific examples.
For Task 1 of this assignment, write three distinct paragraphs in which each one identifies a potential audience that the site addresses. Explain how the site specifically addresses the needs of each particular audience based on why they would be visiting the website.
Task 2
Identify and explain three separate needs that the LU website might be designed to help address. That is, how do you see the site helping others “learn about a subject,” “carry out a task,” “make a decision,” “reinforce or change an attitude,” or “Motivate someone to take action”?
For Task 2 of this assignment, pick three of those and write a paragraph analyzing each one: Who is the specific audience being addressed? What need is being addressed? How does the site specifically address that need? Is it done effectively?
Yes, there might be some overlap between your Task 1 and Task 2 paragraph topics, but keep in mind that you focus for Task 1 is audience and your focus for Task 2 is purpose. Obviously, both elements should work together, so you should truly get to see how this website works to appeal to both audience and purpose, and how it does so for many different audiences and different purposes.
Task 3
For Task 3, as you review and analyze the LU website, begin to think about various needs or challenges that grab your attention about LU. In our next Module you’ll develop a proposal that identifies a need or problem for LU and offers a solution. List three possible topics that you might explore more fully in the next Module and develop a Proposal solution to address.
