Christopher R. Teeple

Instructions
For this observation, Joshua is the focus of the observation. Watch the video “Peaches Tantrum” and write an objective description of what you observed in the video (entire segment) in paragraph format using correct punctuation for any verbatim dialogue. Be sure to only include objective information in this paragraph and do not provide interpretations or explanations of the behaviour. After completing the objective reporting of the video, you will then transcribe the beginning 60 seconds of the objective report into ABC reporting format as described earlier in this module.
Assignment Expectations

In your report, provide the following information in the order presented below.
1. Identify:
the first name of the preschool student being observed (first name is sufficient)
adults involved (make up a name or title for the main staff person in the video, assume she is an Educational Assistant)
the location of the observation (describe setting in one sentence)
the time (in this case, you are not provided a specific time but you can make-up a date and time)
the name of the observer (yourself)

Write two or three sentences of background information providing context for the reader of the report. This should be placed under a section called “background.” This section should only give the basic information that someone reading the observation would need in order to understand the scenario. Since you do not know much information other than what you observe in the video, you can create details about the background (age of child, diagnoses, past behavior history at preschool). This section would include anything that you consider to be critical for the reader to know prior to reading the observation.

Provide an objective report of the video observation presented in two separate formats: paragraph and ABC column. The paragraph observation will include all information from the 2 minute 42 second video and the ABC format will include only the first 60 seconds of the observation. Both the paragraph observation and ABC chart information should be written in complete sentences.

All information within the actual observation should be written in objective language.
The final portion of the assignment will include a brief personal analysis of the observation. This is your opportunity to hypothesize why the Educational Assistant applied the strategies that she did and why the student may have responded why he did. Your analysis could identify patterns of behaviour, strategies that seemed to work or not work, warning signs of frustration or preventative strategies to support the student moving forward (paragraph format, 125–250 words).

You may find the guiding questions in your text (Anecdotal Records Section, p. 74) to help you assess for patterns in behaviour.
The assignment should be typed, with a title page and correct grammar. All information should be in full sentences.
Use the following link and observe the video. The case study is to be done on the child in the video.
