You must write a short critical review of one of the module’s 2 external speakers in the form of an academic blog (500 words maximum). You will receive your grade, in-text comments feedback, overall feedback and feedback on the marking criteria via Turnitin within 3 weeks of submission. The aim is to show that you can create a short and focused critical academic blog of an industry expert’s view, suitable for posting on an on-line academic blog. This is the kind of work you would do if you were working for a financial organisation. You must have attended the external speaker session on which you choose to write the blog. You can only use one of the two external speakers that I have arranged for the lecture times. We have the attendance records and we will check that you have attended. Your blog should follow the marking grid guidelines below. You must not exceed 500 words (excluding references) as this is the allowed space for the blog. If you exceed 500 words, the maximum grade you will be awarded is 50%. You must provide a word count at the end. You should adopt an academic voice for this critical review. You must ensure you include the following 3 things in your critical review (weights for these elements are shown in the marking criteria below): 1.You should give a short overview of the speaker’s main point or views. This is not a summary of all the points made, but a brief overview of the speaker’s intention in the ‘whole’ session. 2.You must provide a critical discussion of ‘how’ the speaker approached the issue. This might included examining the method adopted (using theory and cases, using a historical analysis, examining recent evidence, comparison of countries, etc) and critically assessing how and if it was valid. 3.You must identify how the speaker’s issue links with theory in your module. This theory should include aspects of market failure and behavioural bias. In addition, the whole critical review must be well constructed with a good structure, and any evidence you refer to must be cited, including citing the speaker presentation (powerpoint slides) and any theory cited to a referenced source such as a text book or journal article. You will be marked using the criteria below. You do not need many references. You should cite and reference the speaker’s materials and if you refer to a theoretical concept, then you should also provide a citation and reference for this. You MUST NOT EXCEED 500 words (excluding references) as this is the limit of blog size. The task is to be able to write a short, clear and focused review. If you exceed 500 words, the maximum grade you will be awarded is 50%. The critical review must be written in Word and submitted via the Turnitin assessment link in the Assessment area of the Module in Course Resources.
