Scenario 1: Researching a Musician
Students are to write a research paper on a famous musician of their choice. The must address demographic information, genre information, chronological information on the musicians career including major events and pieces of work, and their own perception of the musician. They must use 5 or more sources and only 3 can be internet sources. They will have 4 weeks to complete this project. Assume the student is in 7th -9th grade.
Scenario 2: Creating an Alien Species
Students will be assigned a planet that they must research and learn basic facts about. They must then create an animal capable of surviving on that planet including physical and social characteristics as well as how it will eat and interact with the environment around it. They will have 2 weeks to complete the tasks and must make a visual aid diorama of their animal. Assume the student is 2nd-4th grade.
Scenario 3: Preparing for the Real World
Students will select a community they want to live and work in after graduation. They will research housing, needed community resources (doctors, dentist, post office, utilities, transportation), preferred community resources (fitness and recreation), and occupational opportunities. They will do a poster presentation in class that identifies where they will work and live, how they will get around town, and the main resources they will access and why. They have 8 weeks to work on this project. Assume the students are juniors or seniors in high school.
