FINAL PROJECT: ACTIVITY DEVELOPMENT
It’s possible to teach literacy skills in any subject, including PE. Literacy is about speaking, listening, reading, and writing. In this culminating project, students will identify an age group to work with, and describe a scientifically based reading research, grounded in reading theory, for use in developing children’s literacy skills across the curriculum.
The student will describe an activity that is intellectually engaging, have meaningful content in the subject area, and provide opportunities for developing literacy. The student will be sure to include the grade, demographics of the class, and standard.
The student will use the text and/or additional resources to make connections between reading theories, and the activity they chose. The students will include a 5 page paper which highlights the learning and language theory. In this paper, the student describe the why and how behind their activity.
The student must use the Wang text in their reflection, “”Understanding Language and Literacy Development: Diverse Learners in the Classroom offers effective supporting strategies to address the cultural and linguistic diversity of students in contemporary classrooms. Discusses learners with different linguistic abilities–infancy, early childhood, middle childhood, and adolescence–by suggesting effective ways to reach them based on their strengths and needs Emphasizes language and literacy supporting strategies in a variety of everyday classroom settings”.
