I want to start a humanitarian project in my community. A grassroots group operating in San Diego, CA.
1. One resource I will reach out to is my apartment complex, Casa Mira View. There is an affordable housing program that assists families with low incomes. I will ask them to send out an email to those families and offer food or household items they might need. The first step is for the families to make a list of any allergies or preferences. The second resource would be an amazing program called “We All We Got SD.” This program is also in my neighborhood. I will ask them to refer me to small farmers they do business with to see if they can donate any items. I will also ask them if there are people in my specific neighborhood needing food or household items. Finally, I will send out a message on Facebook to see if anyone knows families struggling in the San Diego area.
2. I will be contacting Angel Works, a group of mothers in San Diego. They will direct me to specific single mothers that need formula and diapers. Also, I work with a mobile pizza company called Moto pizza here in San Diego. I plan on getting a list of families they work with directly to see what their needs are.
3. Starting a humanitarian project in my community will take dedication and patience. First, I will need to establish a crew of individuals willing to volunteer their time.
I know that Sprouts, Whole Foods, and Starbucks donate day-old items to the community. I will contact them to see if I can arrange a day and time to pick up these items.
I would start with individual families in need. Find out what their needs are and deliver to them accordingly
