for me, the choice to pursue physical therapy stems from recognizing a growing

Considering this information, my purpose of studying physical therapy under the
umbrella of kinesiology has a promising future with which I can fulfill my
professional, economic, and personal goals, such as establishing a
rehabilitation clinic focused on elderly individuals engaged in sports.

My main
interest in completing my career in physical therapy is to have a
rehabilitation clinic for older adults where they can recover and continue
developing skills that allow them to facilitate their daily tasks. Kristen
Gasnick, a Physical Therapy Doctor from The University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey, wrote an article called “Geriatric Physical Therapy
and Types of Exercises for Older Adults,” which discusses the importance of
physical therapy for adults aged 65 and older, as muscles and joints tend to
lose strength and stability over time. In the article, the author states,
“Attending geriatric physical therapy can, therefore, help older adults remain
independent and prevent other conditions that may occur from lack of physical
activity, such as muscle atrophy” (Gasnick,2024). The author suggests that
physical therapy can not only help with recovery but also prevent physical
conditions that can affect muscles with age and sedentary lifestyles. For this
reason, I consider the importance of studying physical therapy with a focus on
older adults as a necessity for the coming years, which will also benefit me
personally in aging correctly and serving as an example for my future clients.

Since I was
very young, I have felt the need to study a career that allows me to support
others. My parents recall that since I was 7 years old, I always mentioned that
I wanted to have a nursing home or a center to help elderly people. Knowing
that with physical therapy, I can support an elderly person in improving their
life by gaining physical independence is something that holds great meaning for
me. With this, I want to have the intellectual, physical, and economic capacity

experiencing growth and holds promising prospects for the future. This
statement implies that there is increasing demand for physical therapists and
that the profession is likely to continue expanding. This information can be
particularly beneficial for my dream of establishing an elder care center. The
growing popularity and bright outlook for physical therapy indicate a rising
awareness of the importance of rehabilitation and geriatric care (ChatGPT).

As someone from
Guatemala, I unfortunately cannot pursue a career in kinesiology within my
country. However, the opportunity to study in the United States fills me with
hope, as it would allow me to acquire knowledge that I could later share with
people back home. My aspiration is to not only contribute to the field of
kinesiology and physical therapy but also to potentially establish a new
pathway for these disciplines in Guatemala. My goal is to make a positive
impact on the lives of the elderly population by instilling healthier habits

Degrees Needed
The first step to enter into a Doctor
of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, is to obtain a bachelor’s degree in which
the student should have completed prerequisite coursework in biology,
kinesiology, anatomy, and exercise science, among others. To obtain a DPT
degree will take an average of 3 years. You can specialized in different fields
of study biomechanics, neuroscience, pathology, diagnostic imaging, therapeutic
interventions, and so on (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics BLS, 2022). While
CAPTE accreditation matters, the main thing is that students from the program
assigned can take part in the required national licensure examination, which is
the case if the latter is CAPTE-accredited (if the program is not, students are
not eligible for the licensure exam; USA Edu, 2021). The GRE is compulsory to
be admitted to the DPT program, and candidates must apply through the Physical
Therapist Centralized Application Service. Physical therapists receive

and motion analysis labs. Secondly, they are partnering with well-established
clinical sites. Similarly, DPT at California State University, Sacramento,
offers comprehensive courses taught by qualified faculty and partnerships with
local clinics and hospitals for excellent clinical education arrangements
(California State University, 2020). This program makes certifications in
strength and conditioning and foreign exchange studies available to candidates.

After the DPT graduation, candidates
will take the National PT Examination (NPTE) issued by the Federation of State
Boards of Physical Therapy for legal practice in their state (APTA, 2022). A
physiciall therapist does not need to be specialized to practice at entry level,
however they can also choose to specialize by certifying in orthopedics,
neurology, pediatrics, sports, and many others through the American Board of
Physical Therapy Specialties (BLS,
2022). This includes passing a difficult exam and completing professional
practice hours which is equivalent to 2,000 hours caring for patients in your
specialty. The practice registration in one of the ABPTS specialty sections by
physical therapists proves their wide field of knowledge, theoretically and
clinically, which they have obtained in that particular specialty section
(APTA, 2022). Specialty certification is another requirement for the applicants
