I have uploaded all the documents that I have. This is a step leading up to writing an argumentative research paper.
Situation:
Analysis is a genre of writing that requires further engagement from a writer than summary (which is what you did in your annotated bibliographies). While the analysis paper will summarize the claims or evidence that it deals with, its main concern is to depart from the claims of the text(s) that it engages in order to form its own claim. An analysis is not necessarily an opinion; it is an engagement with evidence or ideas in which you seek to develop your own claims. These claims are what we have in mind when we say “analysis.”
Task:
Including counterarguments is important in any argumentative research paper. You need to know how to confront them, however. It is now your job to select a source that argues against what you are arguing and take a position in response to this article. Your analysis should contain a clearly stated thesis statement that extends your position in relation to a key issue of your choosing. Essentially, you are being asked to argue against the selected piece, to agree with it with complications (meaning, whereas you agree with some points, you disagree with others and then tell us why), or to identify a place where you think the piece should go with its argument where it has failed to go. For this reason it will be useful for you to keep in mind how the selected work is making its arguments and supporting its claims. Are the arguments convincing? Do they work? Are there any gaps in its reasoning? Your thesis statement should clearly point to the specific parts of the arguments that you are engaging in your analysis.
Evaluation Criteria:
Clearly present a thesis/main claim which points the reader to the central concerns of your analysis
Thoroughly engage while demonstrating a clear understanding of the main ideas
Utilize appropriate citations and paraphrases of the text in framing your analysis
Be well-organized and free of disruptive grammatical errors
