I have to write an argumentative essay on how radiation therapy is beneficial for cancer patients. My introduction has be the following:
There will
be people who will base their opinions or counterarguments on fear of liability
while
undergoing radiotherapy. This anxiety comes from the thought of becoming
infertile due to radiation, errors because of
someone committing a mistake, or having friends and family exposed to radiation
(Gillan et al. 2014). However, cancers such as prostate cancer had increased every
year from 2014-2019 (Siegel et al., 2023) and we need to start decreasing these
rising rates of cancer. As far as infertility
is concerned there are options that one can undergo if there is an urge to
still have children such as oocyte cryopreservation, freezing of the ovum, or oophoropexy.
Oophoropexy or ovarian transposition, is a surgery that can move the ovaries
away from the location of the
radiation, so they can be safe from radioactivity (Wo and Viswanathan, 2009). Now if the worry is mistakes happening radiation
therapists must complete their residency in radiation oncology and endure practices while being
supervised by a radiation oncologist (Jamison et al. 2022).
