I have pre-selected two articles on the subject of video games and obesity for you to compare and contrast: “The Health Effects of Too Much Gaming” from Harvard (https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/the-health-effects-of-too-much-gaming-2020122221645) and the scholarly article “Fright but not Fight.” (see attachnent)
In writing your essay you will collect evidence in the form of direct quotations or paraphrasing of ideas from the article. When you use a direct quotation, mark off the borrowed language with quotation marks (“like this for example”) and use a citation at the end of the sentence that includes the author’s name, year, and paragraph or page number: (Wells et al., 2022, p. 477) for the scholarly source and (Grinspoon, 2020, para. 7) for the popular source–and yes, just count the paragraphs.
In the essay you will begin with an introduction in which you will explain what obesity is, why people may be concerned that there is a link between obesity and video games, a brief, one sentence description of each article, and then your thesis on comparing and contrasting the two articles.
In the body of the essay you will follow either a block format for comparison (detailed analysis of one article and then the other) or a point-by-point method in which you discuss aspects of each article together in one paragraph. Regardless, the body should have multiple paragraphs. Each time you start a new topic, then you should begin a new paragraph.
In the conclusion of the essay you will discuss why this topic may be important to children, parents, and health care givers and how these articles would be useful to each group.
Requirements:
Word Count: Between 750-1000 words.
At least one direct quotation from each article: make certain not to excessively use direct quotations however (no more than two per paragraph).
Following the organizational format above.
Applying our notes on popular and scholarly sources to analyze the two articles.
Please use an APA title page so we can begin practicing!
