Recall the items you listed in your Final Project Idea.
Check on your instructor feedback (the Feedback right in your uploaded Final Idea). Now it’s time to pull your comparison together. You may construct this project as any of these creations:
an essay of 1000-1500 words; detailed, clear writing is more important than word count.
In your project, accomplish these tasks:
explain the function of the arts you have chosen and your point of view on it
Introduce the writer who wrote about that function; put him/her in a historical or societal context so it is plain where s/he is coming from. Describe what that writer has to say about the function you’ve chosen. While you may use direct quotes (and citations for the quote) you also should re-describe what that writer is saying, so it is clear (and you should still give a citation for that writing).
Introduce the art work you have chosen. As you’ve done before, include the title and creator name, and a historical period for the work, so that its context is clear. You should feel free to include the circumstances that prompted the creation of the work, if it is relevant to your point of view. Give a brief description of the work, using the elements of structure that you have learned in this course.
Show how the writing, the art work, and your own point of view tie together. Remember, a point of view is great, when it is supported by specific examples. You can include examples that are history, or current events, or your own experience in this discussion. What conclusions do you make about the role of the arts in human society, and why?
Make a page at the end for Works Cited, where you list, in a good bibliographic format, the sources you used and the works you described in this paper. Use MLA, APA, or Chicago-Turabian style. If you’re not sure how to use those in a Works Cited, visit the Purdue OWL website for help, or go to the CSU Writing Center.
