I have attached instructions on the written analysis part of the assignment. and I have attached the video the analysis is written about. I have also attached a document that supports section E) of the instructions.
The purpose of the videotape is to provide an example of skill integration and intentional
skill application of warmth and respect in a helping context. The written analysis
illustrates your ability to think critically about the helping process and to reflect on your
evolution as a “helper” (future psychiatric nurse).
This assignment will be posted within the weekly forum thread and it should include the
following:
A 1500-word (maximum) written analysis that includes the following elements:
a) Analyze the Impact of the Environment:
Include an introduction that analyzes the
physical environment and its impact on the developing relationship.
First, describe the physical environment (was it homey? Was it stark and
clinical? Was it private or were there passerby’s?).
Then, how did those elements impact the interaction? How did they impact you
as a helper? How did they impact your “client”?
Provide evidence/observations to support your opinion (eg. the room was cold,
I noticed that my client kept her arms crossed so as to keep herself warm or…
there were people passing by the room which was distracting, I noticed
throughout the interaction my client losing her train of thought and looking to the
window).
b) Quality of the Relationship:
Describe the tone of the conversation – how did the client present? How did you
present? Did this fit considering the topic of conversation.
Describe the flow – was the dialogue free-flowing, were their uncomfortable
pauses, was the client forthright and trusting? Was it slow going but did you find
your groove as you settled into the role of ‘helper’? What personal attributes may
have helped/hindered this? What client attributes may have helped/hindered
this?
Evaluate if you made the client feel comfortable? How do you know (include
observations with time stamps from your recording)
c) Skill Review
Briefly define and describe the skills of warmth and respect. What do your
resources say about its importance for the developing relationship?
Next, provide an example whereby you demonstrated each skill and whether it
was effective or not (E.g. I demonstrated warmth/respect by … and my attempts
were effective/ineffective as evidenced by [observable data]).
d) Alternative Approaches
Provide 2 clear examples of how you would have changed what you did nonverbally or verbally.
Be concrete: “In retrospect, I would have not said “….” and instead said “…” with
the hopes for the outcome of…”
e) Nursing Communication Theory
Include a brief explanation with supporting rationale for which week 4 nursing
communication theory your approach was most influenced by. (E.g. My way of
being was most influenced by the nursing communication theory of…. You can
see the impact of this theory in my way of being when I…..) *I have attached a document supporting this section*
f) Future Nursing Practice
What was your ‘ah hah’ moment? Did you learn something about yourself
or your way of being that you would like to strengthen?
Include “Considering the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals
(BCCNP, 201#) entry-level competency of [….] I will integrate (learning) in the
following ways…
