SIGNATURE CRITICAL ASSIGNMENT – Team Culture Group Presentation

A) Teams will be assigned a pre-determined culture. Each group will identify a specific maternity problem related to that culture.

Maternity problems will be obtained through research and study. Each group will assign a Team Leader who is responsible for

making sure the group is on task to complete the group project within the allotted time and to ensure all project criteria is met

before turning in the final project to faculty. For this project, the group will focus on their culture and maternity-related problems

and how they relate to each other. Cultural beliefs and care of that patient with the identified problem will be applied throughout

the presentation in the areas antepartum, intrapartum, post-partum, and newborn periods.

B) Upon completion of this assignment, the team will accomplish the following objectives:

– a. Prioritize complex topics.

– b. Refine research skills.

– c. Utilize planning and organization skills,

– d. Work collaboratively as a team utilizing time management skills, problem identification, and the nursing process.

C) Make a formal (25-minute maximum) presentation in front of the class to practice oral communication skills.

D) Team members will bring together information and facts about their assigned culture and their own identified maternity

problem related to that culture, and 2 nursing process problems (1 for mother and 1 for newborn) to create an integrated

and comprehensive PowerPoint presentation on a prescheduled date (see Class Schedule). *Skits and video presentations

will be permitted; however, they must be limited to a maximum of 7 out of the 25 minutes allotted and MUST include all

team members within its body. The remaining minutes are divided among team members for an actual PowerPoint

presentation so you can be observed for public speaking, professional dress, and other grading criteria.

E)Identify a team leader to organize the group. (Stated previously) This student will be the “Team Leader” (TL). Team

Leader role: Team Leader who is responsible for making sure the group is on task to complete the group project within the

allotted time and to ensure all project criteria is met before turning in the final project to faculty.

F) Each team member will cover the specific content for their part of the presentation per the grading criteria located in the

syllabus. Each student will create their own part of the presentation with accompanying slides, narratives and citations/

references. All students need to actively participate in the presentation during the live class session. Recorded

presentations will not be accepted.

a. Include each team member’s name on the notes section of the presentation to identify their work. (The audience

should not be able to see the “notes” section on the PPT presentation. Student notes sections will include citations

b. The PPT presentation will have a final slide with all references/bibliography in the proper APA format and in a font

large enough to read on the PPT presentation and in the portfolio.
