I already completed the primary research plan, I need you to turn it into an essay and make up survey answers for me that you will turn into the essay. Most, if not all, of the research you’ve done so far this semester, whether for the Daily Report/Weekly Summary, your Analytical Synthesis Essay or the Group Synthesis Essay, has been secondary research, reading and reviewed information provided by others who did the research to create the article. For this part of Unit 2, you will engage in primary research activities related to your chosen individual research topic and construct a write-up of your process and findings. Primary research can take several forms: interviews, surveys, observations, archival research, or data research. Your analysis of the findings is a key element of the process and the significant element of the write-up you’ll craft.
To begin, read through the Purdue OWL’s section on Conducting Primary Research, including all the sub-parts, from Ethical Considerations to Analyzing Your Primary Data and all the pages in between.
Next, construct your Primary Research Plan (what type(s) of research you will conduct, when and where, etc.). Use the prompts under “Where Do I Start” on the Purdue OWL’s What is Primary Research page. This plan is due by Friday, March 8.
Then you’ll carry out the research you planned. Takes notes at every step along the way so you can provide details in the write-up (see below).
Finally, you will “write up” the results of your research in whatever form will best accomplishes your purpose. Your purpose is three-fold:
1) To clearly and specifically explain the research you conducted.
2) To clearly and specifically explain the results that came from that research.
3) To carefully and thoughtfully analyze those results.
Remember, analysis requires that you ask and answer “Why?,” “How?” and “So what? What does this mean and why is it important or why does it matter?”
Requirements:
Because each of you will be writing something different for this assignment, there are few absolute requirements. However, if you have conducted an interview, this assignment requires a word-for-word transcript of your exact questions and the interviewee’s exact answers, along with some contextual explanation by you. Other requirements are as follows:
□ The document must clearly and specifically explain how you conducted your research (your research methods).
□ The document must illustrate (with graphs or pie charts or tables) or textually describe the results of your research in exact and specific terms. If you conducted an interview, the interview must be transcribed word-for-word into a document.
□ The document must incorporate 1-3 paragraphs of analysis in which you, as the researcher, explain what the results mean and how they relate (yes, MORE synthesis) to your secondary research findings.
□ The document must be thoughtfully and consciously organized for the best comprehension of your readers.
□ The document must be carefully revised, proofread and edited.
