Prompt
In Unit 3 we examined the period from 1870 to 1945. During this time period a variety of –isms and
conflicts shaped European nations and their people. Technology, political belief systems, and conflict
impacted nearly every person in Europe. Your task is to write a 2-4 page essay that addresses the
following prompt:
Did technology, political beliefs (-isms), or conflict have the most impact on European nations and
their people from 1870-1945?
In other words, what caused the most change? Was it new technologies, attempts to restructure the
political framework of Europe, or national and international conflicts that mattered the most. A
successful essay will examine the interplay between these forces and do some comparisons.
Source Requirements
You must include evidence from at least 2 primary sources and 1 video lecture/textbook reading from
Unit 2. You do not need to summarize the document or class information—rather, you should use it as
evidence in support of your argument. Explaining the importance or impact of an idea, quote, or statistic
is always a good idea.
Using primary sources effectively in support of your argument is a point of emphasis in this essay.
This is not a research paper. You may not use additional outside sources in this essay.
