? Persuasive letter 10%– The purpose of this assignment is to persuade law and/or policy makers (your receiver can be as specific or broad as you want) to implement a structural change. Your persuasive letter (approx. 1 page, single-spaced) asks you to choose a contemporary issue that is relevant to our discussion on race, class, gender, sexuality, dis/ability, and nationality, take a position, and draw on our class discussions and/or readings to make a well-researched, evidence-based and well-argued case for change. Your persuasive letter should, but are not limited to: 1. Address the recipient of the letter, and why you are writing to them 2. Elaborate on the issue of your choosing and the significance of the issue–why is this important? Who are affected by such issue and why? (Be specific when addressing the subject/communities who are affected–are they Black queer women? Poor/working class?) 3. Address and elaborate on the change(s) that you are proposing to tend to the issue of your choosing. a. What is/are the change(s)? What would they entail? What will they do? Who will they affect? Has to be systemic*** Has to be about race, gender or sexuality.Final paper 15%– For your final paper (4-5 pages, double spaced), you are asked to dive deeper into the issue that you have chosen, and critically analyze the issue using at least 2 articles from our class. The point of the paper is to analyze the event with a more conceptual focus – how does the event relate to our discussion of race, gender, sexuality, or class formations in the US? How would an intersectionality approach change and enrich the usual perceptions about the event? You will be graded on your understanding of the concept of intersectionality, and your ability to apply course readings to writing.
