In aphorism# 125 of the Gay Science, The Madmen tells the people who did not believe in God that “we have killed God – you and I. All of us are his murderers.” But at end of the aphorism, he also claims that the death of God has “not yet reached the ears of men … and yet they have done it themselves.” How is it possible to kill God and not know that he is dead?
