Healthcare Quality
For many years adults in the United States have been hesitant, and/or afraid of seeking medical help. In the African American culture, seeking medical help is often not an option due to years of medical abuse against black Americans. Henrietta Lacks, an African American woman died from cervical cancer in 1951. Her cells were taken from her body without her knowledge and were used to create the HeLa cell line. This form of medical abuse created a traumatic opinion that would live on for generations. Opinions are powerful, opinions encapsulate our freedom to criticize, praise, and question. It is critical to understand the system and how it all operates. Healthcare is evolving, and it is critical that we comprehend the system that cures us.
A reform in the United States’ healthcare system is desperately required. To restore lost trust in healthcare, a new look and image are required. This major transformation will improve the overall health of US citizens. Healthcare services were created to help improve life and increase quality of life for all people. Healthcare quality is crucial since it impacts whether a person would return for treatment. Healthcare quality is broken down into six categories which stand as the pillars of healthcare. safety, effectiveness, patient-centeredness, timeliness, efficiency, and equality. Healthcare is patient-centered, which means that patients must be present for healthcare to thrive. However, healthcare is no longer seen as the transformative force that it once was. The public’s perception of healthcare has altered. Instead of going to the doctor, many Americans have turned to alternative methods of mending the human body. I’m sure you’ve seen it on tik-tok as we browse for 30 minutes, different all natural ways to heal the body. Adults seek medical guidance from herbalists, gardeners, and spiritual practitioners. These types of complementary and alternative medicine have been around for a long time, but they have recently grown increasingly popular. People are abandoning traditional medicine and I believe that’s due to the quality of healthcare. healthcare quality has significantly impacted the opinion of healthcare for adults in the United States. The United States just sustained a blow, Americans stood face to face with Covid 19. Many Americans were obliged to remain at home until a potential cure/vaccine became available. Covid, which spread swiftly, afflicted both young and old people. Even though covid was a major and life-threatening menace to our country, just 65.8% percent of Americans were immunized. So, what are the folks who aren’t getting vaccinated doing to keep healthy? (CDC, 2022, n.d., p) In 2017, Mohamed Rashrash performed study to examine the incidence of herbal medicine usage among US adults, as well as to assess characteristics related with and predictors of herbal use. “Herbal products are part of a wide range of therapies known as complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), and many of them currently lack scientific evidence of efficacy and safety.” Using complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to treat patients with various ailments has grown in popularity over the last several decades. In 1997, over 42 percent of Americans admitted to utilizing some type of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM), with herbal medicine accounting for 12 percent of the population.” (Rashrash 2017, n.d., p.) When covid launched in 2020, this transition accelerated dramatically since 2017. Americans began to turn to herbal remedies to rid their bodies of covid. Some Americans refused the vaccination and relied on oranges, lemons, honey, and ginger to treat symptoms. Why are Americans turning to more natural remedies? Some claim that their safety is jeopardized. Leaving only natural options as a form of healing.
