Now that you have reached the end of this course, reflect on your experiences of conducting historical research and connecting the past with the present.
Create one initial post and follow up with at least two response posts.
For your initial post, address the following:
How has examining your beliefs, assumptions, and values related to your historical and current events impacted how you process information in your daily life? For example, consider claims made by politicians, news headlines, tweets by celebrities, or articles shared by your family on social media.
What changes, big or small, have occurred in how you apply historical inquiry skills to classes, your personal life, and/or your career?
Be sure to provide specific examples to support your points.
For your response posts, address the following:
What perspectives have your peers offered that you had not previously considered about the value of identifying one’s beliefs, assumptions, and values?
Suggest other ways historical inquiry skills might help your peers in their personal, professional, and academic careers.
Remember, this assignment is graded on the quality of your initial post and at least two response posts to your classmates. If you refer to any module resources, be sure to include an attribution (or citation) for the resource.
(PLEASE RESPOND TO THE FOLLOWING 2 STATEMENTS)
1. Examining my beliefs, assumptions and values related to the Chernobyl disaster helped me to understand the political climate at the time and how they relate to modern climate. The USSR worked hard to keep information about the incident from getting out. that is also present in modern politics and news outlets. Often times limited information is released to serve a particular sides agenda.
One thing that I’ve changed is looking more in depth at my sources particularly the perspectives they come from. Looking deeper into the perspectives allows me to ensure that I’m getting the most out of each resource and that I’m covering all of my bases
2.I have learned a lot in the course over the past eight weeks—researching and understanding history from the past and present. I knew that women’s voices do not always seem to be heard unless it is a celebrity using their platform to bring attention to it. A good example I talked about gender wage gaps. Women have been fighting for years and a law was passed in the 1960s, but it took a celebrity to bring light to it and show the world it was not fair and proper. I learned throughout this to make myself aware and trust the process. Someone has a story to tell and history showed me examples of what to do with the information I am giving. Life choices are hard to make, but giving the right tools and learning the history helps.
