Deadline for Individual Research Paper: One of the requirements for this course is to write an individual research paper in the form of a survey paper examining a technology, tool or topic from the domain of Management Information Systems. Although you are free to choose any topic of your interest from this domain, few tentative topics are below (in case you have difficulties coming up with your own topic). Note that some of the topics I have listed are from the text and some are not. 1. Social Business 2. Privacy on Social Networking Platforms 3. The Power of Big Data and Big Data Analytics 4. Internet of Things (IoT) 5. Cloud Computing 6. How Google Search Engine Works? 7. Amazon vs. Walmart: Who is winning the e-commerce battle? 8. Crowdsourcing 9. Crowdfunding in developing economies or countries 10. Deep Learning 11. Artificial Intelligence: Can machines replace humans? 12. Alone Together: Why we expect more from technology and less from each other 13. Privacy in the digital age (this is different from 2 above, although there could be small overlap as this topic is not just limited to privacy on social networks) 14. Computer Related Injuries 15. The Dark Web 16. How Data Centers Work? 17. Personalization in the digital age: Pros and Cons 18. The age of big data and big data analytics 19. Agile software development 20. Outsourcing: Pros and cons 21. Analyzing Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and Google for strengths and weaknesses 22. NoSQL databases: Description, working and differences from SQL databases 23. Self-driving cars: Opportunities, issues and challenges 24. Online dating sites and apps 25. Toyota Production System: What other companies can learn from the Japanese car manufacturer 26. Health Information Technology or Health IT 27. Why some startups succeed and other fails? (in other words what makes a startup company successful) 28. Battle of smart speakers (such as Google Home, Alexa, etc.) 29. Agile project management The final research paper is due on the May 11th mid-night, but those wanted to have a head-start, may want to start sooner. Your paper may not be a full-fledged research article describing every possible detail of a technology or a domain, but it must at a minimum include the following sub-sections: 1. Abstract (1 point) (approx. ½ page) 2. Introduction (description of the field or technology, application of the field/technology and short history) (2 points) (approx. ½ to 1 page) 3. Main body of paper which may include your arguments and/or counter arguments or working and/or application of the technology or other details (5 points) (approx. 10 to 12 pages) 4. Conclusion. (1 point) (approx. ½ to 1 page) 5. References (1 point) (no limit and does not count towards page limits) The page limit, font size and references requirements are in the syllabus. I can be flexible with the page limits by 2 to 4 pages, for genuine reasons such as many seminal papers in the field, hence need more writing. The maximum page limit is 20 pages (excluding references). Note: References should include current sources and must conform to APA style (you may want to use Microsoft Word plugin for a freely available citation and bibliography generation software such as Mendeley or Zotero You may also use the citation tool that comes with Microsoft Word. The paper must meet graduate level standards. You should research at least 20 external references such as academic journal/conference papers, trade journals, short videos and relevant websites for your paper. At least 12 of these references must be from peer reviewed journals or conferences only. Use of Wikipedia or the class text as a reference will cause loss of points. References must include the published journal conference name and information, NOT a URL where you found the article. The individual research paper is worth 10 points. Late submissions are not acceptable. Most importantly, everything must be in your own words. I will be using plagiarism check software available with Canvas. Rephrase and cite other articles as appropriate
