How does what you are learning about justice influence your values and goals?

September 14, 2021
Christopher R. Teeple

Hi, my name is Name and I am a senior psychology major at Eckerd College which is a small liberal arts college in St Petersburg, FL. During my first year in college I was required to take a course called “Human Experience” and now to graduate I must take a connected course titled “Imagining Justice”. My first assignment for this class is designed to be a critical reflection of what I have learned during my time at Eckerd. At the end of my freshman year “Human Experience” course I wrote a reflection essay based on how the year was and what I learned that will be attached below. So this paper should take the form of a reflection on what I wrote during my freshman year “Human Experience” course and expand upon it. The paper should discuss how I have personally changed and touch on my expanded efforts and focus in my psychology studies, as well as how my social anxiety has improved. It should also focus on the development of my understanding of the world and my responsibilities, as a soon to be graduate of Eckerd College, hoping to become a therapist. Lastly it should focus mainly on my understanding of the nature and importance of justice. So to start this essay, I ask you the writer to first do a bit of research on Eckerd College and what its core values and beliefs are as a liberal arts college. Then I ask that you carefully and diligently read my freshman year “Human Experience” reflection essay and prepare yourself to expand on those ideas and concepts as if you were me. Please make sure you make comments on what I wrote in my freshman year “Human Experience” reflection essay, and reflect on how I have changed positively since then, again as if you were me. The following are the exact instructions provided by my professor: Objective: The goal of this assignment is to engage in critical reflection on what you have
learned in your studies at Eckerd, with a particular focus on the examination of justice in this
course so far, and your understanding of yourself and the world around you.
Format: This 1500-word paper should take the form of a reflection on what you wrote to
yourself at the end of the Human Experience course.* The paper should discuss how you
have and have not changed, focusing on the development of your understanding of the world
and your responsibilities, especially your understanding of the nature and importance of
justice. The paper should be typed, double-spaced and use a proper form of scholarly
reference citation as needed.
Your paper should draw on assigned materials from Part One of Imagining Justice (including
the work of Sandel, Miller, and Anderson), to support your discussion, which should include
attention to the following questions:
• How does what you are learning about justice influence your values and goals?
• How has your education at Eckerd College contributed to your sense of personal and
global responsibility within a diverse and changing world?
• What questions do you continue to have and how has your education given rise to or
shaped those questions?
Assessment: Your instructor will evaluate your paper based on clarity, critical engagement
with the course and other materials, and effectiveness in making use of a range of materials,
but not on whether they agree with you.
Unfortunately I cannot provide the needed references for connecting this paper to my overall understanding of justice, but I am sure you have them in your database, so the books that MUST be referenced throughout the essay are as follows:
Michael Sandel, Justice: What’s the Right Thing to Do? New York: Farrar, Strauss &
Giroux, (2009).
Carol Anderson, White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide. New York,
Bloomsbury, (2016)
Lulu Miller, Why Fish Don’t Exist: A Story of Loss, Love, and the Hidden Order of Life.
New York: Simon & Schuster, (2020)
I expect this essay to be in depth and make numerous comments on my freshman year “Human Experience” essay attached below, while explaining how, my focus on my studies has improved as well as my social anxiety has improved as I have gotten older. I will also need the following questions answered using all of the above stated sources with citations. How does what you are learning about justice influence your values and goals?
• How has your education at Eckerd College contributed to your sense of personal and
global responsibility within a diverse and changing world?
• What questions do you continue to have and how has your education given rise to or
shaped those questions?
Though this is a reflection essay on my career at Eckerd College aswell as a reflection on my freshman year “Human Experience” essay the focus on justice and how my opinion on justice has been shaped during my career at Eckerd College is the primary goal of this essay. The use of the above sources will not only lead to a higher grade but also simplify your work. I know this is a daunting task and may be a bit confusing so if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you soo much!
