EN.645.742.81.FA22 Management of Complex Systems
In this week’s discussion, we will examine the relationship between our philosophical paradigms and the decisions we make as researchers or analysts. Please respond to the following prompt, and reply to two of your classmates’ original responses as well.
According to Richardson, “When managers choose to adopt a particular perspective, or set of procedures, or what issue to focus upon, these choices are philosophically equivalent to the researcher’s selection of a particular methodology. Both sets of choices are underpinned by particular views of how the world we observe is constructed, and how it should respond to our actions upon it. More often than not we are unaware of the commitment that our choices imply.”
How does this relate to management of complex systems, and is there any difference between the impact of this statement in the domain of complex versus the domain of traditional systems engineering? Justify your response.
Please provide one reference from the reading and an external source reference as well.
