I was planning my informative topic to be about obesity. Below is what I could gather, please use any additional source if needed, and also I submitted examples of how the outline should look like.
Hormones and obesity
How does the entire world get fat this fast? Has obesity become an uncontrollable epidemic within the blink of an eye? Did anyone of us know mothers lay down our fat before we are born?
There is no doubt, and we all understand that obesity has been around for many years. Its been around since any fast-food restaurants or soft drinks like sprite or cola existed, but for the last three decades, the rate of obesity has increased significantly. Society has gone from being svelt to unbelievably sick. The obesity in 6 moths old child can not be explainable.
Leptin is a hormone supposed to send signals to the brain when feeling full and satisfied. Insulin blocks those satisfying feelings to the brain. The question is, why has Leptin stopped performing the way it did in the past. Can Insulin be the only reason obesity has increased in the last 30 years? Leptin is a hormone that goes from our fat cells to our brain and tells our brain we had enough and that we can burn energy at an average rate and feel good about it. It limits what we eat, and it lets us exercise, the reason why Leptin does not work and or not doing its job that’s because of leptin resistance. What is most interesting is that Insulin lowers the sugar level in the blood and turns sugar into fat. Based on this, we can predict that people with diabetes are most likely overweight. The diseases are all promoted by excess Insulin, which comes from the global industrial diet, and being overweight causes many health issues such as heart attack, cancer, stroke, Etc.
The nucleus accumbent is the side where dopamine works. Dopamine is the neurotransmitter and conveys the feeling of pleasure. Eating more and more, what makes us satisfied, causes the change of the dopamine system and is one of the keys to addiction. The processed foods we find everywhere today contain far more sugar than foods used to contain 30 years ago, and often in the form of high-fructose corn syrup, but also just plain old sucrose. While sugar has addictive effects on the brain, its most considerable influence is ultimately hormonal.
During the first pregnancy, total weight gain was pretty standard. However, during the second pregnancy, the total weight gain was more than 30 pounds because of the addiction to carbohydrates like chocolates, candies, ice creams. At every appointment, Dr. used to command me to stop gaining weight. Back then, it was hard to understand (maybe I was young and more careless). I thought she was worried about not being able to give birth to a big baby, but the key was something else. Now I clearly understand why the second child was chubbier and the first one.
Our mothers lay down our fat before we are born. What determines how much fat we lay down is the baby’s Insulin. We need to focus on prevention. When does it start? Before conception in the woman’s health, and so young women are shaping future generations. When we are obese before we are born, we will be more likely obese as adults age.
