Answer all of the following 3 questions:
1. How does Descartes arrive at the certainty that he exists (the truth of the cogito) out of employing the method of doubt?
2. What are Descartes’ reasons for claiming, in the Second Meditation, that the human mind is better known than the body and material things? On what basis does he later argue, in the Sixth Meditation, that we can be certain that material things exist?
3. Why does Descartes think that unless he has knowledge of the existence and nature of God then he will “never be quite certain about anything else”? (25) Having argued for the existence of God, why does he think he is then able to establish unshakeable knowledge?
