How did you brainstorm, draft, bring sources together and incorporate your own opinion?

June 9, 2021
Christopher R. Teeple

Process Writing: Describe your process of writing this essay in as much detail as you can. Did you break up the assignment into smaller parts and follow the parts suggested on the assignment sheet? How did you brainstorm, draft, bring sources together and incorporate your own opinion? You’re not getting graded on whether or not you did what you were supposed to do perfectly and your essay will be graded before you turn this in, so just be honest here. The point of this is to reflect and show yourself what work and effort you put into the essay and to change any necessary behaviors for the next essay.
Reading: how did you engage with the sources to get information such as the main point and subtopics? Do you feel you did a good job in fully understanding the authors? Did you look up words/phrases that were unclear or underline important points? Basically describe how you engaged with the reading that was required. If there were difficult parts of the reading, why did you find them difficult and what did you do to try to understand those parts?
Strengths: Using the language of the rubric (see below), state and explain three different strengths of this essay that you’re proud of. For example, don’t mention grammar because it wasn’t in the rubric; only use what’s listed in the rubric below
Weaknesses: Again, using the language of the rubric, state and explain one or two items that you think you could do better on if you had more time/energy to work on the paper.
Revision: What was the revision process like for you? Did you get good feedback from your peers, instructor and tutor? What major aspects of your paper were you advised to change? What did you find difficult or easy about the revision process? Did you put as much work and effort into the revision process as you did the brainstorming/drafting process? Why/why not?
Evaluation of yourself: How do you think you did as a peer editor? Did you have a good grasp of the assignment to give good feedback? Did you know what you were looking for? Did you work with your partners to give feedback? What do you think you can do better next time?
Evaluation of partners: How would you rate your partners’ feedback for this first essay? What could your partners’ have done better? What did they do well?
Other: (This is optional) You can state any other comments you want to give regarding your first essay here.
Here is the rubric from Essay #1 so you can answer #3 and #4:
Introduction and Conclusion: Hook your reader showing a sneak peak into what your topic is, show the exigence of the topic and summarize all the topics you’ll cover in your body paragraphs. Finally, end with your They Say/I say thesis on what it takes to create persuasive material. For your conclusion, restate your thesis, your topics to prove your thesis and explain the exigence/importance of this topic (20 points)
Body paragraphs: Each body paragraph should have a they say I say set up in which you show what the comedians do and then you respond as to how what you do is similar or different. For example, how do you both approach audience awareness? Be sure to explain your quotes (in the analysis) and show how/what the comedians are teaching us about the writing process and the rhetorical situation (55 points)
MLA and constraints: Be sure that your essay follows MLA 8 formatting and the following constraints: 12 pt black font, Times New Roman, double spaced, 1 inch margins all around (default setting on Google Docs and Microsoft Word), heading with your name, my name, the class and section, and the date, a header, your title, and a separate Work Cited page.(10 pts)
Organization: Each paragraph should focus on an aspect of the writing process and the rhetorical situation. You must have elements from both. It’s up to you to decide the number of paragraphs and how to focus and develop your ideas. You should have 3-4 full pages that address all the important aspects of this topic (10 pts)
Following/applying elements(what we learned in class about analysis, summaries, introductions, topic sentences, they say/I say etc.) (5pts.)
