How did racial and ethnic minorities (i.e. Black Americans, Chinese immigrants, Native Americans, etc.) encounter liberty and civil rights in the United States during the second half of the 19th century (1865-1900) and the early 20th century (1900-1929)? Did they receive the full rights of U.S. citizenship enjoyed by many white Americans at the time? Did minority groups experience unequal treatment, repression, and barriers to full citizenship in American society?
*You should support your answer to the prompt with your own analysis, and evidence drawn from the videos from the modules, the assigned textbook readings from American Yawp, and the assigned document readings from Voices of Freedom. All of this material will come from Modules 1 and 2(line below). No outside material should be necessary for completing this paper assignment.
These papers will be evaluated mainly on the basis of organization (how clearly and logically organized is presentation of the material?), analysis (how perceptively and fully is the evidence interpreted?), and style (how grammatical, fluent, and effective is the writing?). There is no correct or incorrect thesis, so focus on supporting a clear response to the prompt as well as you can in the space allotted.
Important(!): This is not a research paper; it is an analysis of a primary source already collected for you. You are not allowed to use secondary source material other than the textbook for this assignment.
See attached rubric for precise assessment scoring guidelines.
