The brief we have been given is the following ”Drawing on the ideas and concepts you have encountered on the module, critically assess one contemporary issue or concern relating to crime, as represented in media coverage, public debate, or the policy arena. How can criminology help to make sense of this issue?”
So I have chosen the topic of the Pandemic. Previous assessment guidance for this topic was
The Covid-19 pandemic and associated measures (lockdown, social distancing, etc.)
– think about Covid and crime in relation to who might breach lockdown and why; or what effects lockdown has had on broader offending (suppressing street crime etc.) and why, or in the longer-term what impact the loss of jobs or strain of restriction might have, or the approach taken in terms of policing the pandemic.
– Remember the most important thing for you to do is NOT be an expert in your chosen topic. You need to focus your attention on how criminology helps us to understand it. So find the theories you liked the most and see if you can apply them to broken lockdown rules – and don’t forget about crimes of the powerful and the government breaches.
Assessed Work Rules for the format –
Text (including quotations) must be in Times New Roman 12 point font.
Line spacing must be at least one-and–a–half lines; except that indented
quotations may have single line spacing.
Margins of at least 2 cm must be used at the top and bottom of the page, and
2.5 cm on the right and left sides of the page.
Footnotes or endnotes must be included within the specified page allowance;
each note must be no smaller than 10 point font and must start on a new line.
A bibliography may be added: this does not count towards the specified page
allowance. No other appendix may be attached.
Pages should be numbered.
