1. How are teachers influenced by the cultural norms of their own upbringing and educational experiences? What impact can that belief system have on students in their classroom (behavior expectations and referrals for special education services). What might an observant and effective teacher need to consider when it comes to student behaviors and referrals for special education services?
2. We know that “child-centered” or “child-led” are important when we think about best practices for children with unique needs? Based on the information provided in this course, what types of child-centered/child-led opportunities will you, or could you encourage and participate in. Discuss some reasons child-centered/child-led opportunities are important to the developing child with a unique need? Consider yourself in a teaching role to answer this question.
3. Write a KWL chart for 3 disabilities (ADHD, Blindness, Deafness). Write in your own words and be specific. Indicate what unique need you will write about first, then label each part of your response as K, W, L. Discussing what you learned (the L in KWL), is the ‘meat’ of your response; take this opportunity to discuss what you learned and how you will support your newly found knowledge in the future.
