PICOT: In school age children 6 to 12 years old being treated with stimulant
medication for ADHD symptoms, does behavioral therapy versus no behavioral
therapy decrease hyperactivity and improve the academic performance over 3 months.
Aim: Evaluates whether a combined approach of stimulant medication and behavioral
therapy can be effective in managing hyperactivity and enhancing academic
performance among patients with ADHD.
Educate parents of children with ADHD diagnosis about the use of cognitive
behavioral therapy strategies in the classroom and out of the classroom to decrease
hyperactivity and improve attention deficit symptoms.
Goal 1:
Improve parental knowledge of CBT to decrease hyperactivity and improve
attention deficit symptoms in child with ADHD diagnosis.
Objective 1:
Parents of ADHD children will participate in pre-assessment of
knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy related to hyperactivity and attention
symptoms in children who are administered stimulant medications.
Objective 2:
Parents of ADHD children will participate in post-assessment and
demonstrate an increase of 35% in their knowledge of cognitive behavioral therapy
related to hyperactivity and attention symptoms in children who are administered
stimulant medications.
Goal 2:
Implement classroom management strategies for the ADHD student’s teacher
to decrease hyperactivity and attention deficit events while focusing on redirection
and completion of student achievement.
Objective 1:
The school nurse will implement a daily tracker to monitor the ADHD
student and the student’s teacher that will record hyperactivity and attention deficit
events while the nurse is administering daily medication to ADHD students.
Objective 2:
The student nurse will see a 20% decrease in hyperactivity events and
attention deficit events in the ADHD students during school days on the daily tracker.
