June 27, 2024

Hello! I need to respond to three classmates discussion post. Its three different classes. I will post the classmates post I wanted responding to. Just make the response between 75-100 words. And include 2 references for every post. Make sure the references are YouTube videos. Usually I just YouTube whatever the topic is about and use scribber to get the reference in APA format. You are free to use articles as references too.
Here is the first discussion post I need responding to: Hello fellow classmates!
1) It’s midterm week! Best of luck to you all! The disease I chose for this weeks discussion is Huntington disease. Huntington disease is a neurologic disorder that has a delayed onset (Heuther et al., 2020). It is a disease that is inherited by an autosomal dominant pattern, a gene from a parent that has the disease. If a person with Huntington’s disease decides to have a child, the child will have a 50% chance of inheriting the disease. Huntington’s disease is a rare disease that causes the nerve cells in the brain to deteriorate which causes changes in the person’s movements, thinking and mental health. Examples of movement changes include: involuntary jerking, muscle rigidity or muscle contracture, slow or unusual eye movements, trouble walking, troube with speech or swallowing; these symptoms appear worse in some people than others. Huntington’s disease also affects cognitive function such as: trouble organizing, prioritizing, slowness in processing thoughts, and trouble learning new information. Lastly, Huntington’s disease affects mental health and the most common health condition associated with Huntington’s is depression. Other mental health conditions could include: bipolar disorder, mania or OCD. Huntington’s disease is diagnosed involves a physical exam, medical history, interview, neurological testing and evaluation of the patient’s mental health. The neurological exam includes testing of motor, sensory and psychiatric symtomps. The neurologist will test the patient’s reflexes, muscle strength, touch, hearing, vision, mood and mental status. A MRI or CT can be done, genetic counseling and testing. Unfortunately there are no treatments that can change the course of the disease but medications can help lessen the symptoms such has anipsychotic, medications to control movement or antidepressants. Non-pharmaceutical treatment include speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy. Once Huntington’s disease starts, symptoms slowly develop and get worse, it may be faster or slower from one person to the next. In adult Huntington’s prognosis is usually 10 to 30 years but Huntington’s that starts when the patient is young (Juvenile Huntington’s) usually has a prognosis of 10 to 15 years.
****This is for my pathophysiology class
2) The next course is nutrition: Here is the post I need a response to: Vitamin K is a group vitamin that plays a vital role in blood clotting to prevent excessive bleeding in case of a cut (Mladěnka et al., 2022). Unlike other vitamins, Vitamin K is not used as a supplement. Vitamin K is a group of compounds mostly found in Vitamin K1 and K2. Vitamin K1 is found in leafy greens and other vegetables such as spinach, kale, lettuce, broccoli and collard greens, while Vitamin K2 is found in meats, eggs, cheeses and other synthesized bacteria. Vitamin K can also be found in cereals, though in small amounts. The key role or function of Vitamin K in the body is to help in blood clotting to prevent injuries and strengthen bones. The other functions of Vitamin K include easing morning sickness and protecting cognitive functions. The symptoms of Vitamin K deficiency include feeling sleepy, throwing up, seizures, bruising, red sports, yellowing of the skin, pale skin, sticky poop and nosebleeds (Mladěnka et al., 2022). The deficiency of Vitamin K in the body can be triggered by heavy drinking of alcohol, severe malnourishment, drug abuse or active celiac diseases. In case of Vitamin K deficiency, an individual can take oral supplements, Vitamin K injections or drops for young children.
Here is the last course which is my english class. Here is the response I want a response to:
Healthcare-related tasks for a non-specialist audience:
Performing an electrocardiogram: I think this would be my best option to discuss because I know this task well. I perform about 50 electrocardiograms a week.
Paper charting on a 1:1 patient: This would be a good option to write about because I have previously taught this skill. Because digital charting is most common these days many people do not know how to paper chart.
Nail care for a diabetic patient: This skill would be a great task for me to give instructions on because I have experience in podiatry and nail care for diabetic patients is a little different than nail care for a non-diabetic person.
Strategies:
I would define electrocardiogram, electrodes, 12 lead ECG/EKG, artifact, and sinus rhythm. Defining these terms would be useful as they are not terms used often by non-specialists.
Providing illustrations would be very helpful in explaining this task to a non-specialist because they most likely would need to learn human anatomy better to be familiar with intercostal spaces, clavicular lines, and axillary lines.
Providing historical background for a non-specialist would be beneficial because many people are confused as to why we often abbreviate electrocardiogram with EKG. Most people would not know that the electrocardiogram was invented in Germany. The German spelling is elektrokardiogram hence the abbreviation “EKG” (Admin_Cac & Admin_Cac, 2021).
